Locally Owned Companies Get Bought Out By Large Corporations

Our Valued Customers & Dearest Friends,
Growing up in the HVAC and plumbing industry, I watched my father not only solve customers’ problems but treat them as though they were familiar friends, just helping each other out.
It was vital to both that we, as a company, be involved and participate in the lovely community in which we all live, work, and play. My father believed that everyone should be able to learn about the heritage of this area. He turned our family home into what is now the Syracuse Regional Museum.
As a local, family-owned and operated company, we continue to support our community and strive to do everything we can for those we serve. Each year our employees volunteer their time and effort to sponsor the Syracuse Heritage Days Breakfast. We have contributed to or sponsored several events supporting our local police, firefighters, EMTs, school sports teams and music programs, and the Girl Scouts of Utah. We continue our efforts daily by actively participating as members of the West Davis Chamber of Commerce, which strives to support this community through business and help it thrive.
My father brought the modern technology of fuel furnaces to households across Syracuse as the transition from coal to natural gas was taking place. My brother, Russell, and I have continued that hard-working innovation by bringing our unique atmospheric and elevational conditions to our manufacturers, demanding they build quality equipment that will operate at the highest efficiency for the climatic conditions of northern Utah.
We are active members of UPHCA®, the largest and only independent subcontractor association representing the plumbing & HVAC industry in the State of Utah. In addition, we are members of both the ACCA® (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) and NAHB® (National Association of Home Builders) ensuring that the Utah State codes, building laws, and regulations are in-line with industry standards for commercial and residential safety and health.
I Write to You to Express the Frustration and Loss I Feel.....
In recent months, several locally owned companies in our industry have been purchased by large corporate private-equity firms. I write to you to express the frustration and loss I feel when local companies, like ours, continue to be bought out by corporate entities that then retain only the former owner's name to appear familiar to their customer base, but shift business practices and ethics while abandoning local community involvement efforts. It’s not my place to disclose the names of these businesses, the disguised corporations operating plumbing and HVAC companies under local business names can be found at https://uphca.net/2023/03/30/locally-owned-operated/ .
In many cases, Utah State courts have found these corporations guilty of up-charging customers for unnecessary services, charging premium rates for inferior quality, and taking advantage of elderly or unsuspecting customers. These crimes will not go unpunished. Though I cannot singlehandedly change the trajectory of current corporate intrusion: dismantling honest neighborly service and community involvement; I can commit to not sacrificing our business and customers to the callous behavior of the greedy infiltrators of our locally owned and operated service-oriented business.
